May: WAVE Transit ILM - North Carolina
We're starting a new campaign to showcase our amazing customers and the good they're doing in their communities!
This month, we're highlighting Wave Transit in Wilmington, NC, for their outstanding efforts toward a sustainable future and healthy transit.
Since their inception in 2004, Wave has grown tremendously. Their Breathe Easy initiative addresses both their vehicles and buildings-they're working to transition their fleet from diesel buses to lower-emission CNG buses, as well as building three new facilities to meet LEED gold and silver standards.
In 2010, Wave created the Making Waves Foundation, providing transit fare subsidies to nonprofit agencies who provide assistance to members of the community in need, and to individuals who otherwise would not have access to transportation. The Foundation also aids Wave Transit in raising funds to improve public transit in southeastern North Carolina. It is managed by the staff of the Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority, eliminating the need to divert precious funding to administrative costs. Donors can be assured that 100% of their donations are dedicated to meet the foundation's mission.
