Like most industries, transit serves its members a big bowl of alphabet soup on the daily: IVR, AVL, GPS, MDT, ATMS, TNC, ROAP, JARC, RTS, NEMT, CTAA—it can be a challenge to keep them all straight. Not to mention the never-ending stream of buzzwords, esoteric terms, and newly minted words that you just can’t quite interpret at first.

That’s why we’re running our “Definitions” campaign, and we hope that it’s useful for new and veteran members of the transit world alike. While it is, in part, a marketing campaign (we do use examples of how our products and features relate to the terms we’re defining) its larger purpose is to serve as a sort of basic glossary. If we put some of these things into a real-world context, hopefully they’ll be easier to remember and help you expand your knowledge base.

We began the last week of May, 2017, and will publish new micro-editions periodically by email. We’ll post them here, too, so stop by again if you want to watch the project grow!
